The Cobblestone ManorRestaurant and Bed and Breakfast The Cobblestone Manor is a Alberta Historic resource site. The original two story log house was built in 1889 by the Joseph Young family who were pioneers from Utah. In 1913 a Belgium finishing carpenter by the name of Henry Hoet purchased the log house for $200.00 . He put river rock around the entire house and then built four large additions around the original log home. The additions made the house just over five thousand sq. feet. Henry Hoet told people that he was building house for his sweetheart in Belgium. The material used to build the rooms came from the Mormon Temple and the Prince of Whales Hotel, both construction sites Henry worked at. What material Henry could not find locally he imported from Europe. Some of the materials used in the construction are 16 different hard woods including oak, Tiffany glass was used for all the light fixtures and river rock for the three fireplaces. In 1928 when the house was finished Henry Hoet was committed to a mental institute were he lived until 1949. His sweet heart never came to see the house, some say she never existed. The house when finished was appraised at $25-$30,000.00. And was sold at an auction for approx.$1200.00.
